About this event

Dear grade 7-12 teachers!

You are invited to register your class to join us at the “Empowered Girls’ Conference: Taking Action on Climate and Environmental Justice”, on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm.

Our goal is to raise awareness of the climate crisis and empower our youth to take action while listening to inspiring and influential young Canadian women such as Raven Lily-Anne Natraoro (Indigi-Queer land defender), Zoha Faisal (Sustainabiliteens), Arshia Uppal (Climate Recentered), Rochelle Prasad (SPARK Foundation).

This event is hosted by the STA Status of Women Committee and inclusive of all genders. You can register your class to receive the Zoom link. Please contact us if you have any questions at marcakis_a@surreyschools.ca.

The Surrey Teachers’ Association Status of Women Committee sponsors the Grade 7 Girls' Leadership Conference for girls attending Surrey public schools. Our goal is to inspire girls to take leadership roles in their schools and communities. The conference aims to strengthen the girls’ perceptions of their capabilities to make a difference. There is no charge for this conference and the teachers who have planned the conference have volunteered their time and expertise to make it happen. A special thanks to Regie Plana-Alcuaz (Co-Chair of STA Status of Women Committee), Ann Alexander , Marilyn Carr , Michele Dickinson , Helen Kelsey , Karen Kilbride , Phyllis Minsky , Velma Moore , Annie Ohana , Niovi Patsicakis , Alexandra Perl , Raman Sangha , Pauline Veto , and Katrina Wisniewski for the countless hours they have spent to make this event a success! If you have any questions, you may contact me at marcakis_a@surreyschools.caAngela MarcakisCo-Chair of STA Status of Women Committee
